Gerard Spong

Gerard Spong has represented defendants in national and international criminal cases for 50 years and is one of the top Dutch criminal lawyers.

More than 2,000 cassation cases handled by Gerard Spong have been published in legal journals. Well-known cases in which Gerard Spong acted include the RAF case; the Rienk Kamer fraud case; the Patrick Kluivert cases; the Nuenen murder case; the hypnosis murder case; the LIBOR case; the fatal accident on the A2 motorway; the case of the Groninger Bodem Beweging against NAM and various notorious coffee shop cases. Gerard Spong is a well-known opinion maker, published the legal thrillers ‘De Breuk’ and ‘De uitvaartverzorger’ and gave the criminal law theatre lecture ‘In Vertrouwen’ in over 70 theatres in 2018-2019.

Bernard Sprenger

Bernard Sprenger is a passionate criminal lawyer who has been part of Spong Advocaten since 2016 and is fully committed to his clients’ interests.

Bernard Sprenger joined Spong Advocaten as a lawyer in February 2016. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in law from Utrecht University and followed masters in criminal law and private law at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in financial criminal law.

Sprenger is known for his personal approach, enthusiasm and dedication. He focuses mainly on community criminal cases and defends his clients’ interests with care and conviction.

Elizabeth Bijl

Elizabeth Bijl studied Law and European Studies (European and international law) at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in financial criminal law during her master’s degree in criminal law.

Elizabeth Bijl studied Law and European Studies at the University of Amsterdam. During her studies, she worked as an external court clerk at the Amsterdam District Court and specialised in financial criminal law. After graduating, she was a registrar at the Court of Appeal of The Hague for two years. She was sworn in as a lawyer in 2020, where her legal experience as a court clerk comes in handy in her work both inside and outside the courtroom.

Stijn Peerik

Stijn Peerik joined Spong Advocaten in June 2019. With his specialisation in criminal law and practical experience at the Public Prosecution Service, he is well equipped to defend clients’ interests in criminal cases.

Stijn studied criminal law at the University of Amsterdam and, during his studies, did a seven-month full-time internship at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in The Hague and Amsterdam. This experience enables him to analyse criminal cases thoroughly and defend them effectively. Stijn Peerik also provides assistance in proceedings against the rejection of VOG (Certificate of Good Conduct) applications, using his knowledge of the law to protect his clients’ interests.

Jeroen Gunning

Jeroen Gunning joined Spong Advocaten as a lawyer on the 2nd of March 2020. With his extensive experience in both the courtroom and the legal profession, he provides legal assistance with the aim of achieving the best result for his clients.

Jeroen studied law at the University of Amsterdam and began his career as a court clerk at the Amsterdam District Court, where he gained valuable insights into criminal proceedings. After his time as a court clerk, he continued his career at Stroobach & Dijkers advocaten in Amsterdam. First as a legal assistant and later, since 2016, as a criminal lawyer. This rich experience enables Jeroen to represent his clients’ interests with sound knowledge and strategies, always striving for the optimal result in every case.
